touch Celebrates the “Text If You Can” Campaign and Honors Celebrity Participants

Beirut—May 11, 2015: Under the auspices of Telecommunications Minister, Boutros Harb, touch, the leading telecommunications and mobile data operator in Lebanon, managed by Zain Group, the pioneering mobile and data services operator in the Middle East and Africa, held a gala dinner to honor celebrities who have partaken in the Text If You Can campaign at the Phoenicia Hotel. The campaign, launched a few months ago in collaboration with YASA, aimed to raise awareness on the dangers of using mobile phones while driving, texting in specific. Coinciding with the third UN Global Road Safety Week, the gala dinner hosted celebrities and press who have lent their full support and helped the campaign reach the Lebanese public.

In his speech during the gala, Telecommunications Minister, Boutros Harb, stressed the importance of road safety awareness campaigns, asserting “such campaigns play a key role in spreading awareness to the public.” He added, “I commend the Text If You Can Campaign and thank touch and YASA as well as the celebrities who have helped convey its message. The Telecommunications Ministry will remain the staunchest supporter of such campaigns given their impact on reducing road accidents.”

On his part, Vice Chairman and General Manager of touch, Wassim Mansour said that “touch will continue its ongoing awareness campaigns, above all the Don’t Text and Drive campaign that underlines the dangers of texting while driving. This campaign falls under the Corporate Social Responsibility program, Positive touch, which helps the local community reach its potential in a sustainable way.” Mansour revealed, “The Text If You Can campaign has reached 70% of the Lebanese public—and it will continue to be communicated in creative ways throughout the year.”

Rahaf Abdallah, who spoke on YASA’s behalf, commended “the positive response people have been having to Text if You Can, especially on social media, where more than a million have shared the videos of the campaign.” Abdallah stressed that the success of the campaign is due to the creative and interactive format employed, which resonated with the Lebanese youth.

The gala ended with the distribution of Text If You Can trophies to the celebrities.
